Hi Everyone!
Just a quick note to say that I have a guest post up at Tamara Suttle’s Private Practice from the Inside Out website, about the occupational hazards about getting burned out as a mental health professional and some things that you can do in the self-care realm so as to avoid this.
I hope you’ll read and comment on the The ABCs Of Self-Care For Psychotherapists. Please share your thoughts regarding burn-out and what you do for self-care.
Best wishes,
Dorlee

Dorlee! Thanks so much for writing such an important post and sharing it on my blog!
Burnout is one of those topics that we can never hear about often enough! And, most of us heard too little about when we were still in school.

Hi Tamara,
It was my pleasure to write the post on burnout 🙂
Burnout is one of those topics that tends to get put on the back burner, no pun intended, until you have no choice but to pay attention…
Because you, your body or your loved ones will notice and eventually shout out that it is an issue that must be addressed (via bodily aches, loss of interest/enjoyment, distancing etc.)…
Thanks so much for allowing me the honor of authoring a guest post on your blog!

Hi Samantha,
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 It’s lovely that you are going for a degree in Human services.
I think that going through individual therapy could be very helpful for anyone going into the field of mental health or human services. Everyone tends to be at least a little neurotic… We are not always as rational as we might believe or act.
Getting therapy helps us spot our main complexes and work through our past so we won’t act out own issues at the expense of our clients.
I would also recommend starting a practice of mindful meditation (even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day on a regular basis). This offers so many benefits…including anti-stress and increasing your ability to be fully present and aware of your feelings (all critical components of your future work).
Wishing you lots of luck on your journey!
